Job Description |
|
|
The aim of this post is to contribute to improving the teaching and learning of English in Sudan through the successful delivery in country of the British Council`s global English Language Teaching programme. This post will also be responsible for coordinating Engage (Teacher Training) Activity across the region, working with in country English Project Managers.
The postholder is expected to achieve substantial impact though engaging in reform agendas at policy level with the Ministries of Education (Interface), through teacher training and development (Engaging Teachers), and through supporting learners with learning options which complement formal learning (Connect) – tailoring the British Council Global English products and services to local needs.
Strategic Thinking
- Ensure Sudan has an ambitious but achievable English strategy signed off by Country Director, aligned with both the in country needs of our partners and with the corporate English offer
- Our ELT work complements and interfaces with our Teaching Centre work to present an integrated English offer in Sudan.
Project Delivery:
- Ensure delivery of training meets in-country plans and targets.
- Ensure project income, scorecard targets and intermediate outcomes met.
- Ensure project delivery documentation is completed to agreed deadlines
- Ensure relevant evaluation tools are used as outlined in project planning documentation.
- Ensure monitoring and evaluation frameworks/methodologies are followed in all aspects of project delivery.
- Ensure that the British Council’s Equal Opportunities & Diversity and where appropriate Child Protection, agenda is implemented throughout project delivery.
Project planning and design:
- Contribute towards the development of appropriate products to meet local context needs as agreed with Regional English Lead, including mapping of global English content to national curriculum and textbooks
- Ensure product development is in line with regional project objectives.
- Contribute as required to regional project design.
- Ensure that the British Council’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity (EO&D) agenda is integrated into projects at design stage.

Qualifications:
- Context, market and stakeholders (level 2)
- Development and delivery (level 2)
- Managing risk (level 2)
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting (level 2)
- Understanding potential markets/customers (level 2)
- Responding to customer needs (level 2)
- Arabic ideally to level B1 or above.
- Teacher training/trainer training skills (senior level)
- Experience of teaching/ training within a state system
- Substantial teaching experience
- DELTA , PGCE in ELT/TESOL or Trinity Diploma in TESOL.
- MA in ELT
- Young learners/Primary ELT
- Working in developing countries.
