UK Department for International Development, India

Supporting Educational Development in India

The Department for International Development (DFID) is the branch of the British government dedicated to eliminating world poverty (www.dfid.gov.uk).  Its largest programme is in India – home to a third of the world’s poor.  Almost one fifth of DFID’s support to India is for education, mostly to support the development of elementary and secondary education. We are looking for an education professional to help DFID India in fulfilling its aims in education.

You will provide timely and high quality advice to DFID India’s Programme Managers and the Education Task Team. Working in an advisory role, the post holder will liaise closely with education teams and government partners to implement our support for education, particularly secondary education and girl’s education.  We expect the post holder to have strong professional skills, with an appetite to innovate and lead evidence-based decision making.  Experience of designing and executing programmes in secondary education and girls’ education would be an advantage.

 Candidate Profile

Qualification:

A post-graduate degree in education or a social science discipline such as economics, anthropology, sociology, political science, social policy, human geography or equivalent.  A minimum of 4 years of experience of working as an education specialist in a developing or transition country, including social research experience.

Terms and conditions

DFID is committed to diversity at the work place and especially welcomes female applicants, as well as applicants from disadvantaged groups and or those with disabilities.

The successful candidate will be appointed on a local contract. To apply, one must either be an Indian national or have necessary employment permit to work in India. Applicants from govt/quasi-govt organisations will need to confirm in their application that if selected, they can procure permission for long term leave from their parent organisation.
