Job Description |
|
|
- Provide GIS support for ecosystem service monitoring and assessment using remote sensing, land use classifications and other spatial data resources
- Develop ecosystem service models using ESRI or open source software
- Compile, maintain, and distribute spatial data
- Contribute to report document writing
- Participate in discussions and presentations within the corporate partnership team and with partners and external stakeholders.
- Integrate/log spatial data (e.g. GPS, field observations, aerial photographs, survey data, etc) obtained from field programmes into the GIS
- Compile, maintain, and distribute spatial data to relevant projects on request
- Provide information to users and answer questions within formal and non-formal meetings
- Participate in project-specific GIS needs assessments
- Create GIS based presentations of programme outcomes and organisational achievements
- Liaise with the Communications team to develop web-based GIS applications to support external communication goals.
- Software license management and hardware management
- Contribute to the training of others in methodologies, standards and tools
- Assist in the procurement of new spatial projects and collaborations
- Support the GIS Coordinator in the achievement and deliverance of spatial development goals across FFI.

Qualifications:
- Demonstrable command of appropriate ESRI
- ArcGIS (v10x) and relevant extensions, including spatial analyst
- Proven GIS data acquisition and management skills
- Competence in spatial decision support tools and analysis software packages
- Competence in other computer applications, including MS Office; with experience in software such as Google Earth
- Fluency in English
- Good report writing skills
- Strong communication skills, to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Networking and collaborating skills.
- Experienced and inventive with mathematical and statistical spatial analyses in landscape ecology and ecosystem service modelling
- Advanced programming skills
- Competence in remote sensing software
- Grant application writing.
- Graduate or post-graduate qualifications in GIS, or alternatively qualifications in applied GIS with a degree in life sciences, environmental studies or other relevant subject.
- At least two years’ relevant experience in GIS modelling and spatial analysis, preferably for conservation and/or land management purposes
- Understanding of spatial systematic conservation planning
- Familiarity with general environmental, ecological and biological processes.
- Experience in remote sensing for conservation is highly desirable
- Knowledge of biodiversity offsetting.
- Good understanding of international conservation and of the NGO sector.
