Job Description |
|
|
- Create designs and layouts for a wide range of materials (see above) based on standard layout principles and aesthetic design concepts, using Adobe Create Suite software on PC platform, as well as some Microsoft Office products.
- Develop graphics, vector illustrations, branding, charts, graphs, infographics, artwork, and web-based design elements (for example, webpage banners).
- Lay out a range of publications in Adobe InDesign, using existing templates or by developing templates appropriate to the project.
- Confer with internal and external project leaders, authors, and IFPRI Communications staff to conceptualize, brainstorm, and create designs that are well suited to individual project needs and various target audiences, including policymakers, researchers, donors, NGOs, organizations in developing countries, and the general public.
- Route proofs for review, input non-text changes, ensure accuracy of all design elements, and prepare final output for print and web.
- Engage in a streamlined workflow and work efficiently to meet tight deadlines.
- Contribute to the way IFPRI is represented to its audiences by adhering to existing IFPRI branding guidelines; enhance and promote the IFPRI brand globally.
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and freelancers, and manage projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of design experience in print publishing environment, using PC platform and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Exceptional organizational skills—ability to multitask, work independently, be resourceful, and follow through to closure under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to understand target audiences and relationships to brand concepts
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral/written) skills and ability to work on a team in a multicultural environment
- Knowledge of or experience working on international development issues, especially in areas related to IFPRI’s mandate
- Willingness and aptitude to learn new publishing technologies and skills.
- Experience with InDesign templates within Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Master Collection)
- Working knowledge of HTML5 CSS
- Ability to prepare templates for Word and PowerPoint
- Willingness to travel to developing countries to provide Communications support (minimal).
