Job Description |

|
- The Head of Campaigns and Advocacy takes overall leadership on achieving ActionAid International’s global strategy ambition to become a more effective campaigning force, improving the impact of our local and national campaigning work as well as implementing multi-country campaigns to address the structural causes of poverty.
- This role promotes an integrated and strategic approach to campaigning, making full and effective use of our research, policy analysis, lobbying, coalition-building, communications, and mobilising capacities.
- The Head of Campaigns and Advocacy connects with key external allies and represents AA as needed. The incumbent will ensure that the organisation develops and invests in campaigning systems, skills, research and advocacy, and builds creative tools to link, organise and energise our partners and supporters at all levels and to achieve our target of 5 million supporters and 5 million youth actions worldwide.

Qualifications:
- Formally, you will have a relevant degree / Masters or equivalent experience, coupled with a Minimum of 10 years experience in designing, leading and winning campaigns with strong advocacy underpinnings, at least 5 of these on an international basis, including implementation and strategic roles.
- The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing and leading complex multi-country advocacy strategies. This will be coupled with exceptional women’s rights understanding, analysis and commitment and experience of campaigning on development and human rights issues and underpinned by a good understanding of international institutions and processes, development issues and debates
- We require and incumbent who is an excellent communicator and skilled spokesperson that has an understanding of how to influence political structures and decision makers as well as the ability to represent advocacy messages with authority and credibility to the outside world. In addition, exceptional negotiation and influencing skills, with the credibility and management experience to broker agreement with senior managers within the organization is essential.
- Experience of mass communications, fundraising, digital activism or other “social marketing” disciplines will stand you in good stead. You need to be a dynamic and empowering leader, able to exert influence and drive change without line management authority. Staff management experience in a large, decentralised organisation and in a complex, uncertain international environment is crucial.
- For this role you would need to have excellent organisational and analytical skills and in particular the ability to think and operate strategically in a fast changing campaigning environment.
- You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, being able to work in English (in addition, French, Spanish or Portuguese would be an advantage).
- At a personal level, you must have a strong commitment to a human rights based approach to development; champion womens rights and value working with diverse cultures and the poor and marginalised groups.
- Your ability and willingness to travel internationally and work flexibly in virtual settings and distant management would be required.
