 The role:
  • With deployments normally ranging from 4 weeks to 4 months, this roving post is a unique opportunity to work in a wide range of countries and across humanitarian issues. You’ll be deployed to the humanitarian situations where there is greatest need for clear and rapid analysis to tell the world what is happening and persuade decision-makers to do what is needed.
  • You’ll get straight to the heart of issues, quickly analysing the key issues and establishing strong advocacy strategies. You’ll also engage with governments, key decision-makers and United Nations representatives – using your tact, diplomacy and outstanding interpersonal skills to shape and influence opinion and bring about real change. At the same time, you’ll be a spokesperson for Oxfam telling national and international press what is happening and what needs to be done.
  • You’ll be part of a national and international team, building capacity and consulting closely with colleagues so that our advocacy strategies are sustainable and informed by those closest to the ground.
 Candidate Profile
 Qualifications:
  • What we are looking for You’ll have proven experience of humanitarian work along with a good understanding of the types of policy issues involved and the appropriate solutions available.
  • Your humanitarian background will be supported by the capacity to crystallise issues in complex situations while thinking strategically – understanding global trends and dynamics beyond the context of your current deployment.
  • Able to produce excellent written materials you’ll also be a persuasive representative with a track record of influencing decision makers at all levels.
  • You will be a calm, adaptable and sensitive team player with excellent inter-personal skills, able to support and consult colleagues in pressurised contexts and provide policy leadership and vision to a global team.
  • Willing to travel at short notice – often to difficult circumstances.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English essential, other languages an advantage.
