Job Description |
|
|
- To develop and priorities the policy advocacy work in the organization considering International and National Strategy Papers of the organization
- To map out the exiting and incoming policies of the Government and international agencies (bilateral, multi lateral/international) to make them pro poor together with national and international agencies and civil societies.
- To develop the position of the organization as per organization values and principles in line with the rights of the people and to preserve the environments.
- To work on accountabilities and transparencies of the Government and international agencies (donors) to make citizen of the country aware on their acts.
- To influence internal and external lobby targets on agreed advocacy priorities using the full ranges of advocacy tools and techniques.
- To draw from field based programs, policy and action research and external information sources to provide in-depth analysis on the specific policy area/issue related to ActionAid’s thematic priorities.
- To maintain responsibility for informing and developing policy positions on specific issues, through in-depth policy and political analysis, as well as ensuring ActionAid influence on these issues.
- To communicate widely across divisions within ActionAid Afghanistan and relevant ActionAid International country programmes, regional offices and divisions, and external partners and allies.
- To set and deliver specified objectives as per ActionAid Afghanistan’s country strategy paper and annual plans.
- To manage selected projects or initiatives involving a combination of internal and external stakeholders, in line with agreed priorities.
- To represent ActionAid Afghanistan vis-à-vis external relationships and events related to policy and advocacy.
- To contribute to strategic and operational decision-making, with judgments based on specific problem-solving experience.
- To raise fund on to work policy related issues and influence donors towards for accountability and transparency.
- Sharing the learning through documentation and dissemination.

| Qualifications:
- Masters degree or equivalent qualification in the social sciences
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in Policy Advocacy and Research work in the development sector
- sound understanding of Afghanistans policy issues
- Knowledge on rights based approach, participatory research and participatory methodologies like Participatory Community Based Changed Plan, REFLECT, Social Audit, ELBAG, PPA, PVA, Community Reviews etc
- Strong analytical ability, effective interpersonal and communication skill for advocacy and media work.
- Good understanding of working in multi-cultural work environment
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and approaches in social sciences
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of gender and diversity issues and proven commitment to and evidence of promoting gender equity.
- Sound computer knowledge of standard packages and database is desired.
- Able to work in a complex work environment like Afghanistan by respecting its cultural and religious norms, demonstrating sensitivity towards women and by upholding the safety and security protocols of the organisation.
- Ability to communicate well in spoken and written English is a requirement.
- Knowledge of local languages like Dari and /or Pashtu would be advantageous.
