Job Description |
|
|
- Functioning as Director of the Nutrition Information Centre of Stellenbosch University (NICUS) and the African Micronutrient Research Group (AMRG)
- overseeing the planning and implementation of the University’s Food Security Initiative (FSI) in the Division of Human Nutrition
- supervision of Master’s and PhD students participating in the FSI
- providing input to progress reports to donors
initiation, co-ordination and quality control of the Division’s research in general writing grant applications and generating a third stream of income
- publishing research in peer-reviewed journals
- networking with various stakeholders
- strategic planning
- participating in lecturing as appropriate
- community engagement
- Monitoring and quality control of a nutrition information service to the public, media and health professionals
- working closely with the Head of the Division to ensure research and information outcomes are achieved.

Qualifications:
- A relevant doctorate
- a proven track record of nutrition-related research and publications (commensurate with the level of appointment)
- registration or eligibility for registration with an appropriate professional board (if applicable)
established networks with national and international health and/or nutrition organisations, industry, government agencies, NGOs and community groups
- excellent interpersonal skills
- sound computer skills (MS Office)
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- ability to represent the Division effectively at various research forums
- good knowledge of other intersectoral programmes relating to nutrition.
Recommendations:
- Participation in large multisectoral studies and national surveys
- ability to manage and co-ordinate complex multi-partner projects
- multilingualism in terms of South African languages.
