Job Description |
|
|
|
The Nature Reserves Officer will be responsible for leading on the implementation of practical management and monitoring of the network of the UWT nature reserves across Northern Ireland, ensuring all legal and organisational requirements are met. The person appointed will be responsible for the management and completion of management plans for UWT Sites. The appointed person will assist in the line-management of trainees and volunteers to undertake work on nature reserves. They will be expected to implement Trust procedures relating to health and safety matters on nature reserves and assist in the reporting requirements across the department. |

Qualifications:
- A third level environmental qualification and a minimum of 1 year’s full-time or part-time equivalent relevant experience OR 4 years full-time or part-time equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrable experience of managing volunteers
- Demonstrable experience in the preparation and implementation of nature reserve management plans and work plans
- A broad knowledge of Northern Ireland’s flora and fauna, and the threats to it
- Demonstrable experience of a range of biological monitoring and recording techniques
- Experience of driving a range of vehicles & trailers such as 4x4 vehicles
- Experience of using a broad range of hand tools and machinery, such as pesticide sprayers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws
- An ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally – effective presentation skills, report writing skills, letter-writing skills and the ability to converse with a diverse range of people at all levels
- Effective organisational skills – the ability to manage and prioritise workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to organise meetings and events
- A demonstrable ability to work independently without direct supervision
- A good knowledge of health and safety legislation
- High level of computer literacy with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- A full UK driving licence.
- Experience in effective partnership co-ordination.
- Demonstrable experience in the use of Recorder software.
- Experience of carrying out Phase 1 Habitat Surveys
- Experience of preparing funding applications.
- Demonstrable experience in working with a range of community groups
- Experience of using GIS software
- Current certificate in First Aid at Work.
