 Job Description
 
  • Responsible for the implementation and quality control of all community mobilization and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Organize the establishment and/or strengthening of community water/hygiene committees, in coordination with the Program Director.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of participatory training materials and events.
    Guide the design and implementation of innovative hygiene awareness raising and behavior change materials and methodologies (e.g. theater or other community events, peer-to-peer education strategies etc.).
  • Ensure that all plans, methodologies, activities and monitoring are appropriately inclusive of men, women and children and take special measures to include vulnerable groups.
  • Work with the team to develop a robust monitoring and evaluation system, and monitor and report on social and behavior change aspects of activities, especially related to community participation in the projects, including gender and other vulnerability aspects.
  • Liaise with other relevant actors (Ministry of Health and other international agencies) to ensure consistent messages and a coordinated approach.
  • Monitor the materials for project activities; prepare list of materials needed and coordinate with logistics department for timely delivery of materials.
  • Represent Mercy Corps in a professional manner to suppliers, government officials, local and international community members and community groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Candidate Profile
 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the water and sanitation, health, hygiene, and safe water promotion, particularly at the community level.  Work experience in sub-Saharan Africa is preferred.
  • Experience in designing and overseeing innovative community mobilization, IEC and BCC approaches highly desirable.
  • Experience working with host governments and their agents, INGOs and national NGOs and familiarity with international development operations.
  • Experience in integrating community participation, gender and vulnerability dimensions and community-based capacity building is desirable.
  • Good organizational and project management (including M&E) skills and the ability to anticipate project needs.
  • Fluency in French is essential and competency in English is preferred.

  • The successful candidate will have a well-developed ability to conceptualize, plan and implement program activities creatively, as well as the ability to analyze data, scale up and utilize lessons learned for the continuous improvement of program implementation.
  • Candidate should possess patience, enthusiasm and strong interpersonal skills, particularly at the community level.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required.
