Job Description |
|
|
- Provide scientific support for the areas of RSPB conservation activity outlined above, but be prepared to develop other areas of research and scientific support should changing demands of the Society require it.
- In conjunction with science customers in other RSPB conservation departments, and outside RSPB, identify key knowledge gaps hampering formulation of RSPB’s conservation management and advocacy. Develop and promote new research project proposals and other scientific activities on this basis.
- Promote project proposals to secure internal and external funding, including the initiation and preparation of external funding proposals where appropriate.
- Develop collaborative relationships with appropriate individuals working on similar topics in universities, research institutes, NGOs and government agencies, and maintain and cultivate good working relations.
- Develop, agree and manage external contracts if required, and ensure that they deliver agreed products within budget and in a timely and appropriate fashion.

Qualifications:
- PhD in relevant subject area, Honours Degree.
- Designing and managing field research in conservation science.
- Field research experience in upland environments and/or on bird responses to renewable energy developments.
- Research experience on climate change impacts on biodiversity.
Skills:
- Statistical modelling with ecological data.
- Line management of outposted research staff.
- Project management.
- Specific experience of statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, MINITAB, R, Distance).
- High proficiency in computing skills – word processing, data management and use of statistical packages.
- Success in external funding applications.
