Job Description |
|
|
- Assist the Associate Director of Special Events to develop and ensure the delivery of a portfolio of major, organization-wide events including fundraising, cultivation and outreach;
- Drive the agreed events strategy forward in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders;
- Act as a driving force for the events strategy in North America and Japan by working with HRWs local offices to ensure its implementation; maintain relationships and act as a liaison between offices in North America and Japan and staff in HRWs New York headquarters;
- Assist in the evaluation of major events, identifying best practices and lessons learned in order to build on the future strategy;
- Supervise the Events Associate;
- Assist with planning and implementing signature fundraising events in North America and Japan including HRW’s Annual Dinner, Film Festival Opening Premier and Cries from the Heart;
- Support the logistical planning and execution of signature cultivation events, such as Council Summits and Board of Director meetings;
- Oversee support staff for signature fundraising and cultivation events;
- Coordinate logistical preparations for the Annual Dinner, including but not limited to, show flow development and hiring technical directors;
- Manage the Defender Tour coordination; an international tour of human rights activists honored during the HRW Annual Dinners
- Provide ongoing technical, logistical, and administrative guidance and occasional on-site support for signature fundraising, cultivation, and outreach events;
- Deliver outputs in a timely manner and be consistent with the agreed strategy and priorities of the Development and Outreach Department;
- Operate in compliance with organizational regulations and rules, including the policies of applicable employee agreements;
- Establish clear work plans for staff and communicate priorities clearly and effectively. Provide oversight and take responsibility for delegated assignments;

Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, social sciences, or related studies is required. An advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience coordinating high-level events from concept to realization is essential; some experience with fundraising events and the development of overall events strategies is preferable.
- Creativity, initiative, follow-through, meticulous attention to detail and impeccable organizational skills are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required, and knowledge of other languages such as French, German, Arabic, or Japanese is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple constituencies simultaneously, working effectively toward deadlines is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
- Familiarity with fundraising databases, particularly Raiser’s Edge, is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are highly desirable.
