Job Description

CSIRO is seeking a Procurement Specialist to fill an interesting and challenging role based at the Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC) in Kensington, Western Australia. The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing a range of complex procurements and provide support to major science investment programs and scientific procurements.

The Procurement Specialist will play an integral role in the successful delivery of major CSIRO collaboration programs within Australia such as the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), Sustainable Energy for the Square Kilometre Array (SESKA), the National Geosequestration Laboratory (NGL), and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, as well as managing assigned scientific procurements and vendors within CSIRO and our collaboration partners.

The role requires well developed technical skills, exceptional stakeholder management abilities, plus high level negotiation and organisational skills. Your strong customer focus coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be augmented by an in depth knowledge of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and how they apply to a CAC Act organisation. An ability to lead stakeholders through commercial/risk based models to develop efficient and effective Procurement and Contracting strategies which are compliant with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, is what will set you apart.

Candidate Profile


  • a highly developed ability to lead complex procurements and negotiations, ;
  • excellent organisational skills demonstrated by a track record of performance improvement and delivery of desired results;
  • skills and knowledge for strategic procurement, risk management, contract development and negotiation, contract management, policy and project work, including sound judgement;
  • excellent skills in written and oral communication, including liaison, presentation, influencing and representational skills;
  • high level ability to undertake research and analysis, prepare high quality plans and reports, and to make sound recommendations.
