Protecting and Improving Food and Nutrition Security of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Lesotho and Malawi
-assisted communities with improved and appropriate agricultural production technologies - Result: household food availability has greatly increased;

- food diversification strategies introduced - Result: families have access to a more varied diet;

 - bio-intensive method of “key-hole” gardening introduced in the semi-arid target area - Result: enabled beneficiaries to produce vegetables all year round in a sustainable manner;

- prominence given to capacity building empowered and instilled self reliance in beneficiaries - Result: various ways identified to enhance livelihoods and improve food and nutrition security, health, education and social welfare;
Through various interventions, school enrolment and retention increased, child abused cases decreased, home based care for people living with HIV greatly improved and care in community child care centers enhanced.
 
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
FAO works with countries has the mandate of raising levels of nutrition and ensuring humanity’s freedom from hunger by promoting sustainable agricultural and rural development. The Organization provides advice and assistance to over 180 member countries, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups that experience food insecurity, such as: the poor, landless, and the socially and economically excluded groups. Also included in this group, are HIV affected and infected groups as well as those in emergency situations. Specifically, the Nutrition and Consumer Protection Division provides assistance to countries in the areas of policy development, household food security, capacity building, nutrition education, food composition and nutrient requirements, dietary intake assessment, food quality and safety, food standards.
