Action Aid India has been working with poor and marginalised people in India since 1972. Our focus is on the rights of India's most marginalised communities: Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. These groups face an acute lack of access to and control over resources, services, and institutions.

We pay special attention to those in vulnerable situations such as people living with chronic hunger, HIV/AIDS or disability, migrant and bonded workers, children who are out of school, city-dwellers without a home, and people whose land or livelihood is under threat. We also work with women, men, girls and boys who have been trafficked, displaced, or hit by natural and human-made disasters.

We focus on the people that others forget. People in poverty. People who face discrimination. People whose voices are ignored. We help people fight for the rights that they are denied. Simple things, like the right to eat. The right to stay on their land. To an education. To have a say in the decisions that shape their lives. We're not about giving handouts or telling people what to do, because in the long run we know that doesn't work. Instead, we use our resources, influence and experience to help people find their own solutions.

We're an international organisation, working with over 25 million people in more than 
40 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice.  Our head office is in Johannesburg. We're the only large international development organisation with our head office based in Africa, with offices in Asia and the Americas connecting our work in Europe.
