This assignment offers a valuable opportunity for a motivated young professional to contribute to regional science-policy efforts, gain practical experience in environmental analysis and stakeholder engagement, and support the application of evidence-based approaches to sustainable development in West Asia.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the coordination and implementation of activities across the four pillars of the Science-Policy Subprogramme: data, science, assessment, and policy.
  • Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of environmental data to support evidence-based policy development.
  • Contribute to the preparation and communication of scientific assessments, reports, and policy briefs.
  • Support outreach and engagement with national and regional partners, including academic institutions, government entities, and civil society.
  • Assist in developing knowledge products and visual materials that translate complex scientific information into accessible policy-relevant formats.
  • Help organize and facilitate webinars, meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations aimed at strengthening science-policy linkages. This would also include the preparation of technical materials, info notes, and meeting reports.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support to ensure smooth implementation of subprogramme activities.
  • Perform other related tasks to strengthen the integration of science into environmental decision-making in West Asia.
  • Perform other duties, as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in A first-level university degree or equivalent in area related to environmental science, environmental policy, natural resource management, political science, international relations, or other closely related fields is required. Master's degree is an asset.
  • 2 years of professional work experience, knowledge or affinity in environmental and natural resource, environmental science-policy is required.
  • Experience in project management, data analysis, and implementation is required.
  • Familiarity with environmental assessments, scientific communication, or data management tools (e.g., GIS, statistical software, or databases) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills in English and Arabic is required.
  • Accuracy and attention to details in data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, and authorities at different levels.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.); familiarity with database management.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Sound security awareness.
  • Have affinity with or interest in the environment, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
