Job Description

Job Summary

In this role, you will produce outstanding written editorial content that maximizes the impact of our research and initiatives to advance ambitious climate action globally and in key countries. You will shape the overall editorial strategy for the New Climate Economy project, writing and placing op-eds for high-level Champions in major media outlets, the WRI blog and elsewhere. To be successful, you will stay abreast of the latest developments on climate change and national economic policies and translate that into key messages to carry forth in op-eds, blogs and other communications products. You will also work collaboratively within the global and in-country teams to elevate new research and relationships. Working closely with our team of communications, engagement and research, you will also be responsible for developing project-level communication strategies, overseeing publication production processes and supporting events.

Job Responsibilities

Developing & Implementing Communications Strategies (50%)

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to support a diverse range of projects, working with staff and leadership across the world to identify outreach opportunities that highlight WRI research, analysis, and experts
  • Work with communications, engagement and research experts to oversee efficient execution of existing communications processes regarding publications and communications activities
  • Work with experts to develop compelling concept notes, funding proposals, presentations and messaging about the Climate Program’s research and initiatives

Writing/Editing (40%)

  • Work with experts and high-level Champions to bring complex research findings and national and international policy recommendations into compelling prose
  • Write and edit blog posts, articles, op-eds and speaking remarks for high-level Champions and WRI leadership
  • Keep abreast of major international climate change policy and economic developments and identify opportunities to shape that narrative, including through curating and shaping key message packs
  • Work with team members to transmit a core narrative into other communications products including sharable social media assets, factsheets, videos, website content and infographics

Project Management (10%)

  • Work with team members to ensure communications aspects of projects are tracked and reported to partners and funders.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience in communications, journalism or similar field
  • Master's degree in related field (or a bachelor's degree with 2 additional years of related work experience)
  • Prior experience drafting articles and managing editorial content
  • Prior experience ghost-writing for high-level champions or executives
  • Demonstrated experience or expertise in writing on economic, climate change, environment, and/or international development issues
  • Understanding of the media landscape
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to collaborate
  • A can-do outlook with a strong affinity to work for a global non-profit organization
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • US work authorization is required for this opportunity
