The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 32 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.

Responsibilities:

  • To develop a project plan document with project set-up and planning for the multi-year program on NZNP taxonomies.
  • To set up a technical working group with subject matter experts of multilateral institutions, national financial regulators and central banks. Expected output is at least 8 confirmed experts and a terms of references document. 
  •  Contribute to day-to-day coordination of project team and reporting to central program management in support of the above listed GEF-8 NZNP deliverables. Expected output is participation in key internal and external meetings and development of a reporting tracker document. 
  •  As business needs emerge, contribute to ad-hoc policy initiatives within the Global Policy team.  Specific tasks and responsibilities:  UNEP FI requires a taxonomy expert consultant to work in tandem with subject matter experts, key stakeholders and the UNEP FI Secretariat to contribute to the delivery of a global guidance document on Net Zero Nature-Positive (NZNP) taxonomies for regulators and central banks. 
  • Contribute to - and independently lead components of - the delivery of a global guidance document on Net Zero Nature-Positive (NZNP) taxonomies as part of UNEP FI Global Policy team's contributions to the GEF-8 NZNP project, including:-
  • To develop a project set-up and planning for the multi-year program. Expected output is a project plan document. 
  • To set up a technical working group with subject matter experts of multilateral institutions, national financial regulators and central banks. Expected output is at least 8 confirmed experts and a terms of references document. 
  • Comprehensive literature review of NZNP taxonomies.
  • To develop a review of existing climate and/or nature taxonomy frameworks globally. Expected output is a max. 
  • To develop a chapter summarizing key trends, gaps, and best practices relevant to NZNP taxonomies. Expected output is a max. 10-page chapter document. 
  • Contribute to (early) discussions on the design and structure of the guidance framework, if feasible already start drafting initial chapters of the framework.
  • Expected output is a detailed outline document with key messages and supporting points.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree, provided the candidate has 7 years of experience. 
  • At least 5 years working experience in multilateral institutions, central banking, consulting, finance and/or government, with proven experience in developing, applying, or analysing climate and/or nature-related taxonomies or similar financial or prudential regulations.
  • Language proficiency: English is the working language of UNEP FI.
  • Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
