Position Summary:

The Human Resources Intern will report directly to the Senior Human Resources Generalist, and will occasionally assist other team members with a wide range of projects related to Human Resources Operations and Administration including: compliance and employee relations. This internship is designed to provide exposure to a variety of Human Resources initiatives that will help the Intern gain knowledge and provide direct corporate experience at Relief International.  Please feel free to submit your resume and contact information at any point but keep in mind that we assign internships based on availability.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Human Resources (HR) special projects, including:
  • In collaboration with the Senior HR Generalist, maintain the performance management system and ensure that information entered is up-to-date and accurate
  • Provide support during employee file audits
  • Assist the HR Team to reinforce good employee relations by supporting and participating in monthly event celebrations and activities
  • Routinely assist HR management during employee training and orientation programs e.g. maintain the onboarding tracker, file training certificates and any other administrative tasks
  • Routinely support the head of recruitment in employment procedures when necessary including reference checks, scheduling interviews, updating and posting job descriptions
  • Handle telephone traffic on a daily basis as well as most office functions in the absence of HR Management
  • Independently handle daily correspondence with co-workers, staff and managers in both written and verbal communication in a timely manner
  • Prepare new employee files
  • Files employee action forms and documents into appropriate employee files
  • Additional tasks as required
  • Maintain an attractive and orderly office environment

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • 15 hours minimum; M-F varied schedule
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to take initiative and is detail oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Excel and basic word processing
  • General interest in human resources and/ or business operations, administration
  • Quick evaluation and decision making
  • Must be able to meet deadlines as required
  • Work efficiently and effectively with minimal or no supervision

Salary: Unpaid, monthly transportation stipend and academic credit available
