IUCN China Office was established in year 2003. Since then IUCN serves as a technical advisory body on policy, legal and economic issues. It acts as a bridge between government, civil society and business and facilitates China’s engagement with the international community on key issues in China.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
The intern is expected to comply with the IUCN Asia Region Annexe to the Delegation of Authority: (DoA: Asia Annexe), current at any particular time, and the sub-delegations issued thereof. Such compliance must be exercised with due diligence and regard for the letter, spirit and purpose of the DoA.
The intern will be responsible for the following tasks
- Translate the needed documents.
- Support the preparation of GEF Yangtze Biodiversity Programme.
- Assist in the implementation of ongoing projects, such as workshop organization and facilitation, contract development and report review, drafting donor reports, and consultation with partners and experts, etc., and contribute to knowledge and communications products;
- Assist in the needed logistics, preparation, and execution of events in China, including the logistics, invitation and registration, as well as coordination with vendors.
- Assist in the production of press releases and other communications materials and help with the regular update on the IUCN social media outlets.
- Provide support to develop various needed documentation such as project proposals.
- Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be requested by the supervisor, including the production of integrated monthly reports, etc.
GUIDANCE AND MENTORING:
- The candidate once selected, will be given an guidance regarding all the projects that will be involved by one of the project managers and whenever opportunity comes on IUCN as an institution.
- The candidate will also have opportunities of site visiting and travels.
Please Note: The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organisation such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation.
- Enrolled in an undergraduate university programme relevant to natural or social sciences (e.g., Bachelors or its equivalent) and not have graduated from it); or
- Be enrolled in a graduate university programme relevant to natural or social sciences and not have graduated from it. The work experience that they seek to obtain should be in line with their studies or the requirements set by their academic institution;
- Be in a “gap year” between studies with a clear goal of returning to complete or initiate studies at the end of the “gap year/period”;
- Be computer literate in standard software applications; Proficient in the use of office applications (MS Word and Excel) and web-based management systems;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities;
- Organized and self-motivated, team worker;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision, and willingness to undertake travel;
- Native Chinese speaker, excellent in spoken and written English is required for the internship;
- Based in Beijing is preferable due to the COVID-19 situation.
