Term: full time - 35 hours a week

Salary: The starting gross annual salary for this tier role is $65,550 USD

The position and profile

AWID is looking to hire an energetic and passionate individual who is committed to building relationships to add to the collective strength of feminist and social justice movements to lead AWID’s Membership and Constituency Engagement in the role of Manager. The Membership and Constituency Engagement work at AWID aims to deepen relationships between AWID and priority allies within the diversity of feminist and social justice movements, with a view to ensuring that AWID is best fulfilling its role as a feminist international membership organization, working from a movement-support frame.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership in the development, planning and implementation of how AWID works with its more than 6000 individual and organizational members representing a diverse and vibrant cross-section of feminists working on land rights, workers’ rights, sexual rights and bodily autonomy among other issues. You will lead the roll out of AWID’s new membership strategy and its effective implementation while also contributing to further developing what it means for AWID to be a membership organization and what is the political role that our membership strategy plays toward achieving our goals and building feminist realities . You will take strong initiative in navigating a complex global context and identifying strategic opportunities to build, strengthen and expand AWID’s relationship with its members, partners and allies to advance worldwide feminist organizing and collective power that is rooted in standing in solidarity with, and in working across, movements.

You will be responsible for effective development and implementation of a broad range of activities, which may encompass campaigning and strategic communications, convenings and knowledge building, in global processes and spaces- whether it be drumming up a fun virtual speed dating storm between AWID’s partners or putting together an online protest for an action week. You will hold, develop, and maintain relationships with the full spectrum of AWID’s constituencies, partners and with particular focus on historically oppressed constituencies, including trans and non-binary persons and sex workers. You will lead and manage the MCE team in alignment with AWID’s shared leadership values/culture.

As the right candidate, you will be understanding of AWID’s values, and be sensitive to upholding them in the way you take up the responsibilities of the role.

Successful applicants will have significant experience in a similar or related leadership role, in a non-profit feminist, social justice, or human rights organization(s), ideally, a membership organization. They should have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing membership and constituency engagement strategies and plans for membership organizations. They should have excellent interpersonal understanding, relationship building and interpersonal skills to build strong alliances with diverse constituencies and manage complex politics, positioning and relationships. They should have a strong ability in developing and managing successful membership campaigns, and be comfortable in using new tools and technologies, including new apps and extensions to achieve membership strategy outcomes. They would be someone who can thrive in a virtual environment working with diverse communities and movements across the globe, motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions.
