Job Description

The Opportunity

As a key member of the Program Development and Quality (PDQ) team, the MEAL Manager plays a leading role in promoting a culture of results orientation, accountability and learning for SCI Egypt, in line with Save the Children’s global and Egypt Country Office strategic priorities. The MEAL Manager provides leadership in building and strengthening MEAL processes, capacities and practices across SCI Egypt’s programs, to promote evidence-based program design, outcomes focused and adaptive programming, reflective practice, genuine accountability to communities and children, and compliance with donor and Save the Children requirements. This includes working with MEAL staff and programs teams to support quality MEAL processes, and leading initiatives to strengthen processes to capture results, build evidence of impacts, and institutional learning across the program.

The role includes providing technical inputs on selected Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning components and providing capacity building support for MEAL staff, program staff and partners. The MEAL Manager is responsible for providing effective management of the CO MEAL team based in different locations across Egypt; for securing and monitoring MEAL resources; contributing to project design and proposal development; contributing to advancing SCI’s program quality objectives and ensuring reporting to Save the Children; and engaging in regional MEAL learning and development processes.

The position is Cairo based, and includes regular travel to Save the Children Egypt’s program locations across Egypt.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:


  • Masters’ degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written) is required.


  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, Accountability and / or Learning
  • Three to five years’ experience in a senior / advisory role in in a humanitarian or development program context
  • Successful track record of implementing simple and effective M&E approaches and systems
  • Experience with social research methodologies and tools
  • Demonstrable skills in contributing to project design, proposal development and project budgets
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent internal consultation and liaison skills; facilitation and coaching skills
  • Successful team leadership and staff management skills
  • Capacity to work in a cost-shared resource allocation budget environment
  • Ability to work both in an advisory and a hands-on implementation capacity
  • Excellent analytical and creative abilities with strong results orientation
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
