Program Manager

The Program Manager will focus almost entirely on our program’s operations. Candidates looking for research / policy roles will not be suitable candidates for this role. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Senior Adviser’s office including preparation for upcoming meetings, some travel, some light scheduling, and expense reports. 
  • Scheduling meetings- this includes scheduling meetings with officials in India. 
  • Maintaining the program’s budgeting/ finance- this includes working with the CSIS Finance & Accounting team to develop new project budgets, updating budget projections for the team, and offering guidance to the Senior Adviser when we need to re-allocate resources within a project. 
  • Taking the lead in organizing our events. This could include 4 to 6 large (150 people) events in a year and a dozen smaller (15-40 people) events during the year. Most of these events will be at our HQ in Washington, DC, with catering and technical support. Some events may be in NY, India, or other locations. 
  • Tracking our fundraising efforts. Our team typically has between six and twenty potential projects at any one time, and existing projects are up for renewal every few months. We have a streamlined process for tracking. 
  • Introducing the use of project management tools to help us track our engagements, deliverables, and more. This will include improved use of AI tools that can streamline our work. 
  • Managing the program’s database including taking steps to increase subscribers and followers. 

Requirements:

  • Must have at least four years’ experience working in operations-focused roles in public policy or related sectors. 
  • Should have solid knowledge of the India policy environment and key players in U.S.-India relations. 
  • Must have strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Computer and mobile phone / technology sufficient to work from home (we are currently in the office Mon-Thu, with Fridays as optional “work from home.”). 
  • Experience with administrative tasks and attention to detail in all/ most of the following: Databases, event logistics.
  • Must be eligible to work in Washington, DC and commit at least 35 hours per week.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Must be willing to travel to India approximately two times per year for project-related work, including travel to India’s state capitals. 
  • Must have demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  •  A candidate must have a bachelor’s degree.
  • An advanced degree is desirable. 
  • Hindi language ability not, required but highly desirable.
