The CMS Secretariat is seeking a contractor to support the implementation of the CMS Programme of Work for crosscutting issues in the Science Unit.   Under the supervision of the Head of the Science Unit, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 

Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of Decisions taken at the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CMS (COP14).
  • Support the substantial preparations (e.g. drafting of documents) for the 8th meeting of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council and for the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15), and support the Secretariat during the meetings.
  • Prepare background documents, speaking notes and presentations for meetings.
  • Support development of project proposals for fundraising.
  • Support the preparation and follow-up of meetings and workshops.
  • Prepare publications, presentations and other outreach material, including content for the websites.
  • Support the development of capacity-building materials (e.g. videos, presentations, handouts) for workshops and courses.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science is required.   
  • A first-level university degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science in combination with an additional two years of experience in environmental conservation, including work with a non-governmental organization (NGO) may be accepted in lieu of the Master's degree. 
  • Excellent writing skills are required.   Excellent skills in standard software applications are required. 
  • Knowledge of the UN, the Convention on Migratory Species, and issues relating to the conservation of wild animals would be an advantage.   
  • Experience working in an NGO, IGO, Government or academic sector is an advantage.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required as this is the working language of the Convention.
  • Knowledge of French and/or Spanish, which are the other working languages of the Convention, would be an advantage.
