The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA's nuclear safety and security program, which encompasses the IAEA's activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of the work program for GNSSN and the regional and thematic safety networks, including the Asian Nuclear Safety Network (ANSN), the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA), the Arab Network of Nuclear Regulators (ANNuR), European and Central Asia Safety (EuCAS), and the Technical and Scientific Support Organizations (TSO) Forum.
  • Cooperate with member states, relevant organizations, and key persons to facilitate the implementation of activities of GNSSN and the regional and thematic safety networks. 
  • Collaborate with other departments and offices of the agency with a view to continuous improvement of the services provided by the department in synergy with the services offered by other departments, particularly for countries embarking on nuclear power programs.
  • Deliver training, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives for Member States and departmental staff, enhancing technical competencies and network engagement.
  • Contribute to the capacity building of the member states as well as the departments' staff, in synergy with all the department's core activities.
  • Contribute to coordinating the departmental knowledge management process, including the NS intranet and induction course for NS newcomers.
  • Provide training and workshops to users on technical topics. 
  • Manage, implement, and enhance IT solutions for network operations, including websites, collaboration spaces, and databases; ensure compliance with IAEA IT and cybersecurity standards.
  • Track project progress, prepare reports for management and donors, and identify lessons learned and best practices to inform future strategies.
  • Provide project management for agreed knowledge network IT solutions and oversee/execute implementation of IT undertakings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree - University degree in science, international relations, project management, business administration, economics, international law, or other related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant working experience is required.
  • Experience required in project management, particularly in knowledge network project coordination. Certification in recognized project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile frameworks such as Certified Scrum Master or Professional Scrum Master) is highly desirable.
  • Experience required in developing capacity-building programs, education and training programs, human resource development plans, and knowledge management, preferably in international organizations is required. 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing web-based platforms and information systems for knowledge sharing (e.g., SharePoint, web content management), developing capacity-building programs, education and training programs, human resource development plans, and knowledge management, preferably in international organizations, is required.
  • Experience required in establishing management systems, preferably in international organizations, is required. 
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training or workshops related to safety networks or knowledge management is required.
  • Strong IT literacy, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365, SharePoint administration, and web content management systems, is required.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety capacity building and international cooperation mechanisms is desirable.
