Job Description

Job Purpose

  • To join the IRRI team as part of a research team aiming to elucidate the soil chemistry and plant physiological mechanisms of zinc uptake in rice and to identify how these mechanisms function in diverse soil environments.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Investigate the soil and plant mechanisms for Zn uptake in rice plants using stable isotope tracing techniques
  • Investigate in field experiments the effects of various root Zn uptake mechanisms on Zn-deficiency tolerance and Zn biofortification of rice
  • Conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design and implementation of projects and development of reports, ensuring conceptual relevance, comprehensiveness, and currency of information
  • Write and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals that highlights findings from research and experiment activities
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide performance feedback to Researcher and Technician

Qualifications

  • PhD in soil chemistry, plant physiology, or related discipline
  • Experience in designing and completing soil chemistry or plant physiology experiments
  • Experience in being the first author of at least two publications

Skills Required

  • Experience in rhizosphere research
  • Experience in stable isotope tracing experiments related to soil chemistry equilibrium and kinetic processes
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and a good publication record
  • Proven ability to perform in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
