This position is located in the Office of the Director (OD), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Partnerships, Office of Director UNOOSA.

Responsibilities:

  • The Office of the Director (OD) is responsible for supporting the office’s overall direction, administration, and management; leading external relations and public information activities; overseeing coordination and cooperation with entities involved in space-related activities; maintaining the United Nations Register of Objects Launched into Outer Space; and implementing assigned partnerships, initiatives, and activities, among which are the World Space Forum, Space for Women, Space Economy, Space for Youth, Space for Climate Action, Promoting Space Sustainability, and Enhancing International Expertise in Registration of Space Objects.
  • The internship is UNPAID, and interns work five days per week (full time—40 hours).

  • UNOOSA is undertaking a website migration project to improve the usability, accessibility, and visual appeal of unoosa.org.
  • The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Associate Public Information Officer to support this effort by assisting with content review, mapping, and updates on the current website, while also helping prepare materials for the new platform.
  • The intern will also support broader digital communications needs, particularly graphic design and web-focused content creation.

Requirements: 

  • The basic education required is an HS diploma.
  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience.
  • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), master's, or Ph.D. program or equivalent, or have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program.
