The consultancy will contribute to UNDRR Strategic Framework 2026-2030 Deliverable 5.5.2 on “Leadership, coordination and partnerships on inclusive risk-informed action enhance the contribution of the UN system in the implementation of the Sendai Framework.” ”.

Responsibilities:

  • The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries.
  • Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 160 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices.
  • Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyzes, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework, and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk by working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, the science and technology community, and the UN system.
  • Background & Context In 2016, the UN Chief Executives Board adopted the UN Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience: Towards a Risk-Informed and Integrated Approach to Sustainable Development, which defines the support of the UN system towards the implementation of the Sendai Framework, considering a risk-informed and integrated approach to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

Requirements:

  • An advanced university degree in business administration, international relations, economic development, development studies, social science, international development, political science, international relations, or any other relevant field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with a minimum of 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least two years’ experience in administration, program/project management, or a related area is required.
  • Experience in disaster risk reduction or related topics is required.
  • Experience in international organizations and in working in a multicultural environment is desirable.
